At blive lagt på hjul og stejle (To be put on a Breaking Wheel) is a term for a medieval method of execution.

A Stejle is the same as a pole.

The one who is sentenced to be put on a Breaking Wheel was beheaded and afterwards the head was put on a stejle, a pole, and the rest of the body was put on a wheel.

Up until 1866 the Breaking Wheel was a punishment which also was practiced in Denmark.
