Copenhagen Among the Kings - Foot and Bike Tour

Rosenborg castle, one of many architectural jewels

A city walk and bike tour to show you Copenhagen's most important, classic attractions and brings you close to the kings that onces excisted in the city.

The program can be adjusted as desired.

We walk from the Little Mermaid past the citadelle to the Gefion fountain, and we drive along the old ramparts which marked the city's borders during the Middle Ages. We are close to the rich heritage of Christian IV's 16th century Copenhagen, such as the marine houses at Nyboder, Rosenborg Castle and the Round Tower. The city walk can include a visit to the idyllic Rosenborg Castle, which houses the collection of the Royal Jewels.

We go through the palaces of Amalienborg Square and see the change of the Royal Guards; The personal life guard, introduced by Frederik III as the country's first Danish-speaking regiment. The castle is Queen Margrethes and the Crown Prince's Winter Residence, but was originally planned by the 17th century Frederik V as public housing and is the gem of the aristocratic quarter he named after himself: Frederiksstaden.

Then we take a stroll along the canal of Nyhavn, dug by Swedish prisoners of war in the 17th century. The place was a long time one of the city's creepy neighborhoods, but today is one of the most picturesque and popular places in Copenhagen, filled with cafes and small restaurants. H.C. Andersen loved Nyhavn, and between his many travels abroad he came to live in three different houses here.

Then we pass over to the medieval part of the city and stop at Christiansborg Palace, where five castles were constructed followed each other and is where the parliament is located today. We descend under the present building to see the ruins of the first two castles; namely Copenhagen founder Bishop Absalon's 12th-century castle and the Copenhagen Castle, which replaced it in the 14th century.

After a trip around Copenhagen City Hall, we stop at Our Lady Church and experience a mood of Danish Golden Age. The church, which is the cathedral of Copenhagen, houses some of the sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen's best work - among others, his great figure of jesus Christ. The neighborhood around the church was the home of the philosopher Søren Kierkegaards; he spent all his life here. To finish the tour, we climb the spiral corridor on Chrisitan IV's Round Tower.

There may be changes in the order due to any worship services in Our Lady Church.
