Explore the Monastery Church at Løgumkloster

Løgumkloster: The monastery church is by far the most interesting sight in Løgumkloster and definitely worth a detour. Originally it was a part of the Cistercian monastery "Locus Dei", and the church still has a solemn atmosphere and some fine furniture.

The Cistercians wanted their monastaries to be in the periphery, far from the hustle and bustle of the towns and cities - where you could lead a simple, virtuous and industrious life of poverty and devotion - and this spirit has left its mark on the lowly village of Løgumkloster, out of the way, in the marshland. On this detour I focus on the beauties of the building but also on the meaning and idea of monastic life, and why this particular church was built the way it was.

Less than 1 km, appox. 45 minutes and easy on the legs - and fit nicely with a tour of Tønder and a detour to Møgeltønder.
