Walking the Waterway to the Island Æbelø
We'll walk at low tide through the water from Funen by Æbeløholm to the island Æbelø.
Æbelø offers idyllic nature with beach, forest and plains. There is a rich animal and birdlife and there is a possibility to see a pair of eagles nesting on the island.
Æbelø has previously had agriculture and up to 40 residents, but today it is a deserted island, which is protected so that nature fits itself.
The hike takes an hour each way and is organized according to the tide. In addition time is calculated on the island where we can walk different routes, swim or maybe fish.
We'll carry our own water and food and bring the waste back. It is recommended to wear shoes that can withstand salt water and bring dry shoes for the stay on the island.
The participants must be in good physical condition, be self-reliant and be able to cope with some degree of physical challenge, as weather, wind direction and water level have an impact on how easy or hard it is to wade through water. The most strenuous part of the walk is the 2 km of water. There is a total of 4 km walking to and from the island. On the island, you can hike up to 8 km.
It is recommended that you walk through the water in the period from 2 hours before and 2 hours after low tide. If the wind is from northwest or there is heavy rain and thunder, we must cancel for safety reasons. Only possible during June - September both months included.
Tides can be checked here - see under Bogense and remember to add an hour for summer time.
For more than 20 participants, 2 guides are required for safety reasons.
