Emancipation of the peasantry (bondefrihed)
Emancipation of the peasantry was a freedom that the Danish farmers obtained with the waive of the adscription.
In 1788, the Danish peasants obtained emancipation from the adscription law. The waive of the adscription allowed the peasants to decide for themselves where they wished to reside and live.
Up until 1788, Danish peasant was bound by law to remain and work in the area of their birthplace. Therefore, they could not move or find work elsewhere unless they were given permission from the landowner.
