Mendicant Friar

An order of mendicant friars is an order that denounces property ownership. This replies to both the individual monk and the order itself. A mendicant friar was associated with the order and not an individual convent.

The mendicant movement came to Denmark in the 13th century. Mendicant friars were bound to their order, and not to any single convent.

Mendicant friars usually stayed in cities, performing humanitarian work and begging for funds to support their daily lives.

There are four types of mendicant friar orders: Dominicans, Franciscans, Carmelites and Augustinians.
