Successor to the Crown

The successor to the Danish throne will be known as the crown prince or crown princess. This person will be at the top of the line of succession and will be expected to ascend the throne upon the death of the current monarch.

The most recent amendment to the Danish Law of Succession was made in 2009. The change made equal the rights of princes and princesses to ascend the throne.

The only condition is that the successor is the first born child of the current monarch - and so, the first in the line of succession.

Denmark's current successor is Crown Prince Frederik, and his successor will be his son, Prince Christian.
