Eagle Blanket, the
The Eagle Blanket is the name of the silksheet, which was found covering the body of Canute the Holy, interred in Odense in 1101.
It is not known how the Eagle Blanket came to Denmark, but it must have been very expensive. In the 12th century silk was a very precious commodity, more precious than i.e. gold.
Today the Eagle Blanket is on display in the crypt in Odense Cathedral, and it is an important resource in the study of the history of its time.
