Urnehoved Thingstead, the
The Urnehoved Thingstead is in Southern Jutland, near the city of Aabenraa.
From 1074 to 1523 the Urnehoved Thingstead had a function beint the Landsting for Southern Jutland. It was here all free men met with the king to discuss and settle important matters.
According to Saxo, the historian, the thingstead was also used as a place of coronation.
King Erik the Second (Erik Emune) was murdered at the thingstead in 1137, after a short and bloody reign that lasted only three years.
The Urnehoved Thingstead lies near the Ancient Road Hærvejen.
