Volapyk

Volapyk is an artificial language created by the German catholic priest Johann Martin Schleyer from the town of Baden. Today the term "volapyk" is mostly used to describe someone speaking gibberish or in a way not understood by others.

Volapyk was made public around 1879-80. Schleyer himself stated that God had appeared to him in a dream and told him to create an international language.

Volapyk hastily spread, but perished just as quickly. Some believe that Volapyk was ousted by Esperanto.

The words used in Volapyk primarily had English, German and French origins, but all the words were changed nearly to beyond recognition.
