Guided tours in Odense
Odense goes back to Viking times and in fact Odense is named after the leading Norse deity Wotan, in Danish Odin. Steadily, Odense expanded from its humble beginnings in the early middle ages and until today. For centuries, the Odense river marked the southern city limit. Today this part of Odense is the backbone of the green recreational area in the south-central part of the city. There are some very nice scenic walks along the river, past the Zoo and all the way to Fruens Bøge which in English translation would be the Beeches of our Lady. From here it is possible to go by boat back all the way to the city centre with the Odense Åfart and to benefit the most from your outing we suggest you book a guide to join you and reveal all the hidden stories while you enjoy your ride on the river boat or walk along the river.
There are a number of interesting museums, such as the childhood home of Hans Christian Andersen, Danmarks Jernbanemuseum: the Danish Railroad Museum, and Den Fynske Landsby, the open-air museum the Funen Village with a historical reconstruction of a traditional Danish village with original houses from the 18.th and 19.th centuries. A village resembling villages in the time of Hans Christian Andersen as the museum states itself.

Obviously you can follow in the footsteps of Hans Christian Andersen or explore medieval Odense, go on a guided boating trip on the river Odense Å or discover the delightful new quarter around the harbour with its many interesting and modern buildings. Odense has some very nice architecture in the city as well as in the harbour area. One of the buildings in the harbour deserves mentioning, Nordatlantens Hus, House of the North Atlantic, which is built on Byens Ø, the City Island, an artificial island createde in the habour.
A city walk in Odense can also take you past buildings of historical interest as well as the modern buildings and along the charming cobbled streets creating true Danish Hygge and of course through some of the beautiful parks.
