Tour Manager Greenland, Tilo
Have you dreamed of travelling to Greenland ever since your childhood? So let me be your tour manager on a tour along the coast of the world's biggest island, and experience the impressive nature of the Arctic, as well as the ancient inuit cultures and the polar explorers' histories, alongside with the modern Greenland of today!
Did the big, white map of Greenland catch your eye and occupy your thoughts ever since you were a child? Have you since then dreamed of seeing all those strange-exotic named places with your own eyes, like Qaqortoq, Kangerlussuaq, Qasigiannguit or something else q-like ... ?
If this hardly explainable longing for the remote Arctic sounds familiar to you, then our fascination for Greenland and the Arctic is mutual. I have given in for this longing at the age of 26, and have since then spent virtually every summer in Greenland as a tour guide. Some of my seasons up there were spent on historic research expeditions too.
As a tour guide on board the country's own coastal ship, I can offer guided tours in all towns along the Greenlandic west coast, from Qaqortoq, Julianehaab, in the south to the beautiful Disko Bay in the north. My guests will make the acquaintance of Greenland's ancient inuit cultures in the Sermermiut Bay, where the giant icebergs of the UNESCO World Heritage Area at Kangia Fiord form the impressive scenery. Together with me they can follow the footsteps of the French polar explorer Paul-Emile Victor and his large-scale inland ice expeditions in the 1950's, just next to the impressive Eqip-Sermia Glacier. They can also experience the country's vivid capital, Nuuk, which, admittedly, for some visitors may appear confusingly modern!
On my Greenland tours I try to communicate both sides to my guests: The histroy of that Greenland which I know most of you expect to meet up there that is, the unspoiled Greenland of our childhood dreams - and the modern Greenland which we are confronting when we actually get there. And surrounded by the icebergs of the Disko Bay and the howling of the sledge dogs - while waiting for the local bus to get us back to our hotel - you will recognize that the real Greenland actually is both!
